The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has published two new funding directives:
1. Clinical studies of high relevance to patient care
“The German federal government’s health research framework programme aims to speed the transfer of research findings to everyday medical practice. The BMBF facilitates achievement of this goal by funding clinical studies and systematic reviews of clinical studies according to international standards. In particular, projects are funded that aim to close the evidence gap and are therefore highly relevant to the health care system.”
Funding application deadline: 28.05.2018

2. Translational collaborative projects on rare diseases
The BMBF intends “to fund collaborative projects that provide new insights into rare diseases through solution-oriented, interdisciplinary cooperation. The collaborations should pursue a cooperative, coordinated research approach that demonstrates innovative potential and aims at a lasting improvement in patient care in the short and medium term. Research into rare diseases not only promises an improved situation for the affected patient groups, but also exemplary findings that can be transferred to other more common diseases.”
